Sometimes the government does good stuff online. The Social Security Administration has a website with data since 1990 on the most popular baby names, which you can slice and dice in interesting ways. For instance, it explained to me why Joshua (#3 nationwide) doesn't seem that common around here -- it's not in the Top 5 of Massachusetts. You can compare and contrast to the popular names in Britain.
